Taiwan singer with injured finger and ‘big mouth’ performs in S’pore

IT’S great to be number one on the charts.
But there was a time, when US-born Taiwanese singer Will Pan’s mother was absolutely embarrassed whenever he topped the charts, he told The New Paper on Sunday.
That was because it was a chart of a very different sort.
Will, then 12, was in the sixth grade, at the Taipei American School, when he was ‘awarded’ the number one spot in his class’ ‘big mouth’ ranking for talking so much in class.
His mum learnt of the ‘honour’ during the parent-teacher meeting and was horrified. ‘She told me I had caused her to lose face. I think it was the worst day of her parenting life,’ Will said.
The 28-year-old was in town over the weekend to promote his latest album, 007.
He admitted that growing up, he loved to talk and make people around him laugh. But on Friday, he looked and sounded tired, though chatty and amiable. He also sported a bandaged right arm.
Will said he had smashed his pinkie finger against a brick wall while watching TV and practising his dance moves at home two weeks ago.
Thankfully, the injury didn’t hurt, he said.
That incident at school years ago might have affected his mum, but not Will. And although he talked a lot – and loudly too – he claimed he wasn’t a bad kid as he did not get into fights, cheat or steal. Read the rest of this entry »
