What Went Down @ Crash-A-Course?

By , November 22, 2011 3:00 pm

Despite the heavy downpour on 12 Nov Saturday afternoon, moms and dads braced the stormy weather to make sure their kids make it to our Crash-A-Course classes. For that, we are very grateful indeed!

Come little one, what's your name?

Let us peek-a-boo at teacher Wu’s “Play In Arts” class! We can already hear the kids laughing out loud with teacher Wu before they even step into the classroom.

Such good little boys and girls! So well-behaved.

It only takes a ball to bridge the distance. Let's play!

Let’s play a game “lighting the firecracker”, except the “firecracker” is teacher Wu! The kids are ecstatic to see her “explode”.

Let’s cross over to Story Banq (5-6yr) and see what they are up to!

Looks like a ball can even bridge the distance between people!

After the games, the teacher told the children some stories. The children were all so engrossed in her storytelling......

What about the older kids in Story Banq (7-8yr)? Let’s see…

Let's stop passing the ball around and play a game! What should we play? Let's go on an adventure!

The way to deal with a menacing tiger is to be brave......

We are going to slide down the mountain and start our exploration!

And lastly, we have our “Drama Class”!

Lets concentrate on gathering our energy now, so that when we speak, we will be full of energy!

Being able to feel the environment during performances is very important. That is why the teacher wants the students to group themselves into pairs, and have one of them who is not blindfolded lead the other who is blindfolded around the class, so that they will develop a sensitive spatial awareness of the classroom.

By , November 21, 2011 2:22 am

It’s the end of the year, and our “little windmills” are looking to take the stage by storm again! Besides the various performances by our lovely students at The Theatre Practice Education Project, look out for the props accompanying the performance! These props have sparked some pretty interesting conversations round the office! Kudos to all who’ve helped out in making those props, as well as our lovely and spontaneous intern Kaiqi for being our model in the shots below!

“This loudhailer, spritzer and axe look gorgeous.”
“But of course, they have to match the status of the various characters in the story!”
“They must be VERY RICH.”

Untitled-2 copy
“Is this a new look that I’m not getting?”
“A witch!”
“Didn’t we just celebrate Halloween last month?”

Untitled-3 copy
“A hulahoop!”
“No use some imagination! A bath tub!”
“If that’s a tub, I’m never gonna fit in.”

Untitled-4 copy
“Am I as adorable as the kids in our Play In Arts class??”
*Awkward silence*

Untitled-5 copy
“Such a beautiful crown! And what an interesting cape, I’ve not seen one in purple before.”
“Is that a wand she’s holding? Magic!”

Look out for these interesting props and more at our annual The Little Windmills Take the Stage next Friday (25 Nov) @ 7:30pm!

PLUS, a little bird told us that tickets are almost sold out!! Grab those remaining few tickets guys! Thanks for the support, we’ll see you all then!

Story Banq Workshop Session 2

By , November 2, 2011 3:01 pm

Last Sunday we held another session of the “Story Banq Workshop” at the Wan Qing Culture Fest at Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall! Once again, we brought an exciting storytelling session from Teacher Zhou to thrill the kids!

To start off, Teacher Zhou interacted with the children and told them interesting stories, such as the “Ai Ma Plays Hide and Seek” and “Xiao Mo Guai Goes to School”. The stories were told from an e-book, and the colours were so vibrant that they have captured the attention of the children!

When she told the story of “Ai Ma Plays Hide and Seek”, she invited the children to interact with her by asking them that to use their eyes to spot carefully for the animals hiding in the background of the book, whether they are behind a bush or under a tree.

After the storytelling is over, it is time for some fun and games! Teacher zhou prepared a few types of games, such as “The Cat Chases the Mouse” and “Scissors, Paper, Stone”. Before the games were played, Teacher Zhou also emphasised to the children that during the games, they have to careful of their safety, because safety must always come first.

Halfway through, the parents were so delighted to see how much their children are enjoying the session that they have decided to join in the fun too!

So this is what has been going on at our “Story Banq Workshop” at the Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall! We hope to see you join us in our future sessions!

All about theatre!

By , November 2, 2011 1:17 pm

We had a blast the past Tuesday spending an afternoon with friends from Nan Hua High School! As part of their arts exposure initiative, we had the honour of holding a short workshop session and talk with Nan Hua High students! They tried out all sorts of theatre-related activities (many of them were first timers at these games and activities!) with our Director of Education and Outreach, Melissa, and our Artistic Director Jian Hong also introduced them to theatre and its many aspects in a sharing session.

During one of the workshop activities, Melissa asked students to pair up and perform a task: Use one finger to navigate a skinny rod with one student as the leader, and the other a follower! Looks simple but it’s really not that easy! A great activity to build chemistry and sensitivity!

We do hope the students enjoyed the afternoon as much as we did, and we definitely hope to bump into them soon in the theatre! A big thank you to all the students we met, as well as our teacher coordinators! See you soon!
