Mun Poh
combined

Alvin:

Ric:
It’s the whole package!

Jodi:

Jodi:

Mun Poh:

Ric:
Jodi:

Alvin:

Ric:
Ric:

The battle for the Southern Arch has begun! We caught some of the cast members of Legends of the Southern Arch taking a tea break backstage. Let’s hear what they think about wuxia!

Interviewees: Jodi, Ric, Alvin, Mun Poh

1. Tell us about your character in the play!

Alvin: Shi Tianbao, leader of the Zhong Yi Division.

Ric: Kong Xiaoer, a small character who’s loyal to his friends.

Jodi: My character is gorgeous, intelligent, attractive… It’s the whole package! Haha, but once you set foot in jianghu, you are bound by jianghu

Interviewer: So I guess it’s a lovable character? Hurhur…

Mun Poh: Disciple of the Tiger Clan, Wife of Muzi Wudi, and Footman of Muzi Wudi.

Interviewer: You are indeed fully utilized – one person to play three characters!

Mun Poh: Yah loh…

2. What does wuxia mean to you?

Mun Poh: My first impression of wuxia is from the wuxia films I watched during my childhood. I was confused by the many different sects and clans… I could never figure out who got killed or who survived the bloodshed. Hence, I conclude the story of wuxia must have complicated character relationships.

Interviewer: Which is why we have a big cast for Legends of the Southern Arch!

Alvin: I think wuxia characters are people who can stop conflict/war with their own powers and influence.

Interviewer: Must be a very remarkable character to be able to do this.

Ric: In Singapore, “wuxia” is something you say when you find something which you thought you don’t have.

Interviewer: Is that a… lame joke? (serious)

Jodi: My wuxia is “Huh Huh Ha Hee!”

Interviewer: Bring out the nunchakus! (follows suit)

3. What martial art would you like to master? What do you think is the most needed martial art for the modern man? Why?

Jodi: Qinggong! (a gravity-defying movement technique) I can be wherever I want to be!

Mun Poh: Me too!

Alvin: Me three! Then I can run on the roof tops and forget public transport. Fare hikes will no longer bother me.

Interviewer: You don’t have to worry about MRT breakdowns too…

Ric: I dislike qinggong because my mom told me that “one should be practical and down-to-earth”.

Interviewer: Haha… so funny… haha… (patronising tone)

4. Wahaha! Your out-of-this-world martial art has earned you the position to command the pugilistic world The first thing you are going to do is…

Ric: I will cry in front of a live broadcast, in front of all the people of the pugilistic world.
Interviewer: So sentimental…
Jodi: I’ll take a break first. Haha…
Alvin: Sounds like a tiring job, so I’ll catch a nap first.
Mun Poh: I’ll run away and hide on a quiet island. It’s so tiring to command the pugilistic world.
Interviewer: I get it, it’s indeed an unpopular job.

5. Last question, do not miss Legends of the Southern Arch because…

Alvin: It’s so rare to see a wuxia production with all the honour, love, passion and hatred mixed into one. How can you miss it?!

Jodi: Come and see how we pretend to be martial arts experts on the stage!

Ric: Do not miss the show because there’s a SECRET in it.
Interviewer: What secret?
Ric: I can’t tell you now.
Interviewer: Why not?
Mun Poh: Come watch the show and find out yourself!

With that, they turned and vanished before my eyes! They do know qinggong afterall! (actually, it’s because the director has come to chase after them)
Anyway, come see how they take on the wuxia characters and unleash their skills on stage in Legends of the Southern Arch!
