A new hang out place is in town! Playnation @ Scape
, 05 31st, 2011
Was at Playnation @ Scape together with the Mech Engin kakis after our dim sum buffet..
Quoting from playnation website, “…more than 100 hand-picked console game titles for the Xbox360 and Nintendo Wii platform…”
Shiwei and Chengsiong here engrossed with the guitar hero….
And the rest of us were sweating out in the game Kinect, which most of us were involved in games like track, bowling, volleyball, soccer, boxing, etc. A good workout definitely, especially after the heavy dim sum buffet!
The interior deco here create a cozy feeling, and spacious enough to allow big movements and sensor detection for some of the games.
Alexis and Wei Ze involved in Kinect Boxing. Wei Ze seriously wanted to knock Alexis out in this game yea.

Dim Sum Buffet @ Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant 万豪轩
, 05 27th, 2011
Was at Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant with some of the NTU Mech Engin guys to mark the end of our FYP…
320 Orchard Road, 3F Marriott Hotel, Singapore
Tel: +65 6831 4615
With OCBC cards, we got to enjoy the dim sum buffet at a cheaper price. Well, with the ambiance, food and service, it’s definitely worth the price.
The dim sum and food generally was good… many variety to choose from, but there’s no traditional dim sum favorites like egg tart and xiao long bao…
This custard bun was good. *Drools*
I think this was some fried beancurd skin with prawn fillings…
Not forgetting the traditional cha siew bao….
Duck wings and roast meat. I prefer the latter though. Skin was crispy…meat was not very fattening. But be sure the meat go with the chilli. Ups.
Other than the traditional dim sums, there are other chinese dishes that you can order from the menu as well….
Coffee Ribs.. hmm, for me…this was so-so. If you are really full, you can actually give this a miss.

Haha, and Ms Tan Yan Pei, if you are viewing my blog, the guys specially dedicate this picture to you…
The Blue Right – Clean Water, Everyone’s Entitled.
, 04 04th, 2011Witnessed an event last week in NTU … read on to find out more…

Four final year undergraduates from Nanyang Technological University University (NTU) spearheaded Singapore’s first water rights campaign for the right to clean water.
Known as The Blue Right, the campaign was the brainchild of Cheryl Ng Hui Hui, Eileen Seah Li Ling, Joycelyn Yeo Jing Ci and Yu Qinyan, Public and Promotional Communication students from NTU Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information.
Targeted at students from Nanyang Technological University, National University of Singapore (NUS) and Singapore Management University (SMU), the campaign seeks to highlight the water issues faced by Asia’s developing communities and showcase the developmental efforts of Environmental Endeavour 2, a partnership between the Lien Foundation and NTU.

Sancun Village, Honghe Prefecture, Yunnan Province
It aims to drive home the message that access to clean water is a “human right essential to the full enjoyment of life and all other human rights”, as declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 2010.

Sancun Village, Honghe Prefecture, Yunnan Province
“We wanted to do something meaningful for our Final Year Project. Although water is a basic survival need, many of us tend to overlook its signifcant or take it for granted. From our research, we realised that existing water campaigns in Singapore are generally centred on domestic water issues like water conservation. That
was when we decided to look beyond our shores to the neighbouring communities in Asia which do not even have adequate access to clean water,” says Qinyan.

Tang Zi Jiao Village 塘子脚村 – The living conditions here are the worst out of the 3 project sites that the girls had visited during the trip.
As part of their campaign, the four girls visited rural China and Vietnam in January to document the lives of the rural communities through photos and videos. All these have culminated in a photography exhibition that is taking place across the three universities – NTU, NUS and SMU – in March 2011.
Students from these varsities had also pledged their believe in The Blue Right!
Students from NUS, 3rd and 4th Mar 2011
Not forgetting students from SMU… 14th and 15th Mar 2011
And finally back to NTU… 31st Mar and 1st April 2011 (Of course there were more supporters!)

Here’s Cheng Siong, Wei Ze and myself…
Creation of Singapore’s first giant water mosaic painting with 12000 cups of coloured rainwater
The water mosaic below formed a giant picture that conveyed The Blue Right’s campaign message. 350 litres of rainwater was collected from January to March and mixed with paint, to create this massive water mosaic painting! Through this, the team wants to highlight the water situation faced by Asia’s developing communities, which face an acute shortage of clean water sources and often have to collect rainwater for consumption.

Was @ Singapore Biennale @ NSM 2 weeks ago…
Something caught my eyes and decided to snap it.
A closer look, you will be able to notice that this artpiece was done by using unwanted materials, with plaster of paris… environmental friendly sia!
Saw this video clip… and I wonder, what happens if Singapore were to encounter massive floods and Tsunami? Or any forms of natural disasters? Are we prepared for it?
Don’t ask me why. But I have a special feeling for this artwork.
Dig out your favorite childhood toys from here!
Also visited other galleries here…
Hmm, saw this picture and a tinge of sadness just sets in. Pray for Japan…
The olden days of Spore. I think nowadays I only have Vodka glass bottles instead.
Every colors here, depicts a different feeling…don’t you think so?

Sometimes, in life… we really need to take out some time from our busy schedule…to ponder and reflect….

The history of Wufang actually started 6 years ago. Wufang initially took in students at community clubs and schools. It was until last December, Wufang Singapore finally found its home at YoHa Jurong, 200 Jurong East Avenue 1.
Vincent mentioned that finding a home for Wufang was not an easy task. The most difficult part was to find a suitable location big enough to house his students. It was even tougher as the rental fees in Singapore were too high. But with his determination, he solved these problems and now he has his own school at Jurong. He believed that only with well-equipped facilities, his students will be able to develop their fullest potential, and the next batch of Wushu talents will be successfully groomed. Till date, Wufang has more than 800 students! The youngest student was 3 years ago, and oldest was 70! He once had 3 generation of students learning wushu together! The granny, her daughter, and granddaughter!
Wushu not only helps to build up your fitness level, it also aids in enhancing coordination and foster team bonding. Other than Wushu, Wufang also offers a wide range of activities, such as Muay Thai (San Shou) courses, Tai Chi courses, and also Lion Dance courses. Vincent mentioned that in time to come, Wufang will also be offering Yoga and Pilate courses too!
Fred not if you are afraid that you can’t keep up with the courses, because Wufang has different programs that cater to the needs of the individual. For example for children between 3 to 5 years old, there’s a special program known as “ L’enfant Fitness “ which consists of games and activities adapted from ball sports, gymnastics and martial arts. L’enfant Fitness programmes are fun and enables children to learn basic body control, awareness, coordination, agility and strength.
This week, let Fifth Avenue introduce you Wushu and Muay Thai(San Shou).
As one of the earliest and long-lasting sports, wushu has developed its own characteristics over time.
Due to its long history incorporating different elements of culture, ideology, region, and usages, wushu has developed into a great variety of schools and styles. The assortment of schools and styles displays the colorful features of wushu and gratifies the various needs of people.
Wushu includes the use of many weapons. The combinaiton of fist fights and weapon usage allows for a fuller and more efficient application of wushu skills while sharpening the insight of combat, control and enriching the program of wushu.
The combination of offence and defense is the essence of wushu. Implication of offence and defense permeate the complete gamut of wushu.
The movement of the human body is only the external display of wushu. Wushu is by no means limited to the external movement, but also emphasizes the full display of the internal temperament, mental attitude and potential of the human being. The practice of Wushu not only strengthens the bones and muscles but also the internal organs and intelligence. Coordination and cooperation are called for with each and every movement of the hand, eye, body, foot and form of movement. Wushu stresses that the mind directs the inner circulation of air flow within the body and that the inner circulation of air generates the external strength so demonstrating the combination of external and internal forces. Cultivating air flows inside the body in order to improve the basic structures inside the body is an important purpose of wushu exercises.
In few words Wushu’s functions are moral cultivation, offence and defense, curative effect, health improvement, artistic effect and intelligence.
Wufang offers 2 classes for Wushu : Junior Class 6 – 12 yrs old, Senior Class 13 yrs old & above
Muay Thai / San Shou is a unique program that teaches self defense techniques. Adapted from the ancient art of Muay Thai and Chinese kickboxing San Shou, the program emphasizes on the practicality of self-defense. Common techniques consist of punching, elbow, kicking, knee striking, blocking, grappling and wrestling.
Apart from learning all these techniques, you will be engaged in an intensive and scientific training regime which also helps to build up your fitness level.
Muay Thai/San Shou is applicable for those 14 yrs and above. It is divided into 3 different levels, basic, intermediate and advance.

Visit Wufang website for more details on the courses!
Remember to catch Fifth Avenue on Thursday, as we bring you more exercises in Wufang! More interviews with Vincent Ng as he brings you highlights on his 2nd edition of fitness book!
