ALVIN!!! Why you no sing more songs?!

“Alvin & The Chipmunks” is into its third instalment and I was expecting a much more exciting storyline. Yes, there were more adventures for the furry characters, but many parts of the movie was pretty much predictable.

Probably with the third season, we are very familiar with the characteristics of the chipmunks. Hence, I was expecting a plot that goes a bar higher… and MORE singing from the 6 talking chipmunks!

Right from the first instalment of this movie, what attracted me was the singing part. Singing chipmunks – ain’t it the main draw of the movie? The way those chipmunk tunes weaved in nicely to the plot was pretty amazing. I had expected more in this third-parter. However, it was a tad disappointing this time round. While the chipmunks and chipettes caught up with times and sang to Lady Gaga and Katy Perry hit songs, the sequence was very short, and I just hadn’t have enough of it yet!

Alright, that’s just my personal take. But overall it was still a family movie to begin with, not a musical.

But… (bias) ALVIN!!! Why you no sing more songs?!  =p

Ok… if there is ever gonna be a sequel to this again – part 4, that is – please write a chipmunks and chipettes concert story. Ha!

Word as Image

I really miss the days when I get to play around with typography and do up graphics. This video below is pretty impressive, showing how images and words integrate as one.

Words explained through the art of showing.

This also speaks of our own jobs when we work in the field of new media content production. It is about breaking new boundaries, getting the creative juices moving, and showing your audience the visuals through methods of storytelling.

“Show and not tell”. Amazing.

2 + 2 = 4

By 阿定, September 25, 2011 10:10 am

The Original Plank (?)

By 阿定, May 25, 2011 10:39 pm

Planking seems to be the “in” thing now. The term “planking” was created in Down Under Australia and became a fad recently. And it was said that it started out as the “lying down game” quite some years back, and some argue that “planking” is the copycat of the “lying down game”.

Then again, with so many people around the world joining in the fun, planking in almost any possible place…

BUT…*tickles*… is this THE original plank?

Well, at least one camp believes so…

I see… erm.. a bored beagle though…

This picture below still cracks me up quite a bit… LOL!

Believe it or not?

A boy named Charlie Brown

By 阿定, May 3, 2011 9:30 am

20110501_charliebrown_01

Frankly, this is my childhood. The Peanuts gang.

Sadly, it did not have a big presence in Singapore, unlike Sanrio’s Hello Kitty. I remembered in 1998, there’s a theme restaurant, Snoopy Place, that opened its doors here. However, it closed in 2004. :(

It’s the dog, the beagle that is the adorable one…

Now, the gang is back with a Charlie Brown Cafe at 313@Somerset. The outlet opened last December, and I was pretty excited about it. Had seen the Hong Kong version of this cafe, and is really anticipating it to be a good franchise here.

20110501_charliebrown_02

How should I put it…? I was expecting quite a bit, but the place is a tad too small, and I guess more of the original cafe could be incorporated into the local cafe. Take a look at the Hong Kong version here.

But still, the fact that it is centrally located in the heart of town, yet I could feel myself tugged away in a quiet corner, enjoying the coffee and some personal time…

Not the usual fully air-conditioned cafe you would find… but I kinda liked the outdoor concept, casual and laid-back.

20110501_charliebrown_04

20110501_charliebrown_03

Food vs ambience – what makes a cafe tick? Really a matter of personal taste. Only tried their crepe and hot drink. The crepe did leave an impression in me – not heavy on flour, paper thin crepe and chewy texture, goes well with the ice-cream and fresh strawberries.

20110501_charliebrown_05

Well… it is really a place for the cartoon fans… to relive the childhood dreams… hahaha! :)
