Treasuring Friendships
, 04 29th, 2009I first met Andy Lee at a shoot with Zoe, before the shoot he said that he was nervous to be able to work with Zoe and me. I am sure without my mention people will know who he is, but I want to take this oppurtunity to credit Andy for his contributions to this industry for the past 20 years. I have worked with from the late 80s’ till now, although I don’t work with him as much now I still see him working with my friends. He is able to transform facial features with his makeup, and I must say that his makeup skill is one of the best in Singapore.
At his status he is able to pick and choose who he wants to work with, but with one phone call from his friends he makes time to do favours if they require his makeup services even if its free. That is one beautiful thing about him, he still continues to help celebrities without any complaints. We recently got to work with Kit Chan again, the first time Andy and me worked with Kit was in 1993. Fourteen years have passed and we finally got to reunite again with the same team that made her first album cover. Kit is a very thoughtful person. Many celebrities go through different phases of makeup artistes but after so many years, she still uses him to do her makeup.
Andy is a genius at makeup, and has many of his own opinions like many other artistic people. New stylist are afraid to offend him by commenting about his makeup and old stylist don’t like to listen to others opinions so thats why we see less of his work. But it does not matter as long as you are good and enjoy what you are doing, alot of people still remember your good work. In order to survive in this market, you have to learn to socialise more or learn to adopt the “if you can’t beat them join them” attitude. Anyway this industry is very clickish, when you are not in their social circle they won’t use you. Another reason why we don’t see much of his work lately is also because he wants to take a backseat to relax and take care of his mother. In my heart you are one of the best.
Here I also want to mention someone else that does not socialise. He is none other than Jeremy Tan. He has great styling skills, and has improved tremendously in the 20 years since I’ve known him. He styled Joanne Peh at the recent Star Awards and the press have given her their stamp of approval for best dressed. You effort has not gone to waste. I want to thank you for being with me for so many years and I know that if I have any problems you will be the one beside me. Thank you also for making this Kit Chan cover happen. I hardly say thank you to you but I know that you are my true friend and I hope that I have another 20 years to work with you.

Yes, I must say Joanne was gorgeous at the Star Awards as I attended the event. She just stand out among the younger celebs.
