Dead Boy Wakes, Asks for Water and Dies Again – Family Shocked!

By , June 7, 2012 10:24 pm

It’s sometimes difficult to believe everything that you read online. But in the case of Kelvin Santos, the 2-year old Brazilian boy who is reported to have physically sat up in his coffin and asked for water, his parents and family are not only convinced of what occurred, they are absolutely certain that he was a victim of medical malpractice.

The bizarre incident was reported on the Brazilian news website, Portal ORM, which claimed that young Kelvin originally stopped breathing at a hospital in Belem (northern Brazil). He was undergoing treatment for pneumonia at the time.

He was declared dead at 7.40pm on Friday and his body was handed over to his family in a plastic bag.

Kelvin’s distraught family took him home where a wake was held and his body was laid in an open coffin for viewing by relatives.

This is when things took a turn for the weird – about an hour before the funeral was due to take place on Saturday, young Kelvin apparently sat up in his coffin and said, “Daddy, can I have some water?”.

His father, Antonio Santos, said “Then Kelvin just laid back down, the way he was. We couldn’t wake him. He was dead again.”

Of the incident itself, Mr Santos had said “Everybody started to scream, we couldn’t believe our eyes. Then we thought a miracle had taken place and our boy had come back to life.”

He rushed his son back to the Aberlardo Santos hospital in Belem and the doctors reexamined the boy. They confirmed that Kelvin was in fact deceased.

“They assured me that he really was dead and gave me no explanation for what we had just seen and heard.”

The funeral was delayed for another hour in the hope that Kelvin might wake up again – it didn’t happen and the family buried him at 5pm on Saturday in a local cemetery.

Mr Santos is convinced that his son was a victim of medical malpractice and has registered a complaint with the police. An investigation has been launched.

According to the hospital, Kelvin had originally been admitted in a critical condition and was declared dead after suffering cardiac-respiratory failure.

In response, the boy’s father said, “Fifteen minutes after rushing him away for resuscitation, they came and told me he was dead and handed me his body. Perhaps they didn’t examine him properly. Dead people don’t just wake up and talk. I’m determined to find out the truth.”

Life and Death – A Game of Centimetres!

By , August 3, 2011 2:06 am

It is with a great deal of sadness and some trepidation that I feel compelled to finally write about this topic.

There are many campaigns that run in different countries urging motorists to be very wary and mindful of motorcycle riders… one that pops into mind, is “Look Left, Look Right… Look Bike” – this was a campaign aimed at reminding drivers to check their blindspots when turning or changing lanes.

Compared to many countries in Asia, Singapore is well known to be very orderly and organized when it comes to driving habits and the quality and planning of roads and highways.

Having said that, one thing that surprised me when I first arrived on these sunny shores (and still amazes me today), was the seemingly ‘unruly’ behaviour of motorcyclists.

Don’t get me wrong – of course there are many safe riders out there, who value their own life and those around them, but I’m sure nearly every driver will agree with me when I say that the way in which many riders swerve in and out of traffic, squeeze between vehicles while travelling at high speeds on expressways and general lack of adherance to any of the road rules, are often flirting with serious injury and often, even death.

I’ve had this discussion with many friends and colleagues, and I’ve heard responses such as “well, that’s the way they negotiate through traffic”, or “everybody does it – you’re not going to be able to change anything”… and when I’ve suggested that perhaps very harsh fines could be imposed and enforced to dissuade such behaviour, I’ve been (probably quite rightly) told, “just what we don’t need – another fine!!”

Let me say, in my opinion, I suspect that a very large fine would be far less painful than a faceful of bitumen.

I cannot count the number of times that I have seen emergency vehicles attending to a motorbike accident, usually loading a rider into the back of an ambulance – there have been some weeks that it feels like a daily occurrence… on more than one occassion, I have exited my vehicle to help a fallen rider before emergency personnel have arrived.

The worrying thing, is that some of the riders out there seem to display a level of ‘arrogance’ to motorists – they will blatantly swerve in front of cars and then stare down or even scold the driver behind who has had to brake suddenly to avoid running them down and might’ve given a brief blast of their horn.

My message to these people is this – forget about road rage or kiasu concerns of trying to beat other riders and drivers. Think of your loved ones – your wives, your kids, your parents – all those people who would be devestated if they lost you. Treat the road and others around you with respect. Stay in a fixed lane on fast moving highways, instead of trying to squeeze through a gap that is barely wide enough for your handlebars to fit.

What I cannot understand, is why the riders of which I describe, do not see the danger in which they are putting themselves… an analogy that often springs to (my) mind, is – “Would you continue to stand right on the edge of a 100-metre cliff, with hundreds of people around you, jostling with their elbows? Would you move back away from the edge?” – to me, riding between cars and trucks while travelling 90km/h (or more) is the same game of centimetres as standing on the 100-metre cliff edge. All it takes is just one of those drivers to move just slightly off their line, and all of a sudden the rider has gone from a dare-devil to just another statistic.

Did you know, that in Singapore in 2010, more than 46% of all road fatalities in Singapore were motorbike riders or pillion passengers? Furthermore, did you know that two riders are killed on average every single week?

Think of these numbers next time you jump on your bike – then think of your loved ones! No matter what, do NOT think it will never happen to you, if you are a rider that flirts with death daily by dodging in and out of traffic or squeezing between vehicles… it’s only a matter of time until you become the next statistic that emergency workers are scraping off the blacktop.

Think of your families, my friends!!

11 People Killed In Cold Blood – April Witch Hunt!

By , May 19, 2011 10:26 pm

witch03When you hear the term ‘witch hunt’, most people will automatically think about lessons from school and a place and time in history – Salem, back in 1692 – 1693.

Let me tell you, at least Salem held trials before killing those people accused of sorcery…

Now, roll the clock forward to today, to a place called Assam, a state in far North-East India. Believe it or not, the slaughter of people suspected of being witches is continuing.

Witch hunting has been rampant in Assam for years, with those suspected of sorcery frequently killed in cold blood by fellow villagers.

WHAT THE HELL?? – You may rightly ask!

The good news, is that thanks to a complaint from lawyer and rights activist, Radhakanta Tripathy, the killing of four women in the district has drawn the attention of the National Human Rights Commission.

assamAs a result, police officials have arrested nearly two dozen people for the murder of 11 men and women for allegedly practicing witchcraft and sorcery.

Fellow villagers in Assam killed seven women and four men last month alone. They were suspected of performing in witchcraft, which is believed to have caused death and disease in the area.

A police official told The Associated Press today, that 23 people have been arrested so far in connection with the killings and the police are looking for several others who have fled.

So how to punish these people? – Do they still burn people at the stake??

logo_molsmDisclaimer: These images were captured and posted online by the popular Daily Mail Online from the UK. Although the puctures in themselves are not actually very graphic, the implied frame by frame of this tragedy has been broadly criticized.

The stuntman, 23-year-old Matt Cranch from Newquay, Cornwall, was killed when he was fired from a cannon 50ft in the air as part of Scott May’s Daredevil Stunt Show at the Kent County Showground.

According to investigators, the recoil from the large cannon barrel appeared to make his safety net collapse.

Families watching the events unfold during the ‘Easter Bank Holiday extravaganza’ were reportedly horrified by what they witnessed. Cranch suffered massive head and neck injuries when he hit the ground in front of the onlookers.

cannon11One witness said, “It was absolutely horrendous. The net collapsed while he was in the air. As the cannon went bang the truck recoiled… As it moved I could see the net drop to the ground… He landed on the grass head first and continued to roll forward but then stayed on his back motionless”.

An air ambulance and paramedics arrived at the showground and transported him to Maidstone Hospital, where he died a short time later.

All Scott May stunt shows have been cancelled until further notice while an inquiry into the tragedy is carried out.

According to the Daily Mail, “the first human cannonball act took place in England in the 1870s – since then more than 30 stuntmen have been killed while performing, mostly by missing the net… In one accident, in the 1920s, two performers crashed in mid-air with one breaking his back”.

Death By Silicone – Warning: Graphic Video

By , March 16, 2011 12:42 am

Perhaps you’ve already seen this story circulating on the internet – the death of a snake from silicone poisoning after biting Israeli model and actress, Orit Fox, on her fake boob.

Well if you haven’t seen the video of the actual bite – check it out here… but be warned, this might be disturbing to some readers – it looks quite painful to me… although Ms Fox doesn’t seemed overly stressed – would she still have nerve endings on the surface of her skin to feel the pain? I, for one, really don’t know – but the snake latches on pretty hard and really pulls at her skin.

Spanish TV channel Telecinco’s footage of the unfortunate encounter found it’s way on to YouTube… at first, you can see the model fondling and licking the reptile for a feature on Israeli DJ Shmulik Tayar’s radio show. Not long after… tragedy strikes!

Ms Fox was rushed to Hillel Yaffe Hospital in Hadera, northwest of Jerusalem, and was given a clean bill of health after a tetanus shot. The snake was not so lucky, as days later, Telecinco announced that the poor creature had died of silicone poisoning! W… T… H… !!!

I’m guessing that maybe the snake really died from fright after seeing Ms Fox’s really bad facial surgery!! :p

Carolin Berger died after her brain was starved of oxygen during the botched procedure

Carolin Berger died after her brain was starved of oxygen during the botched procedure

Thinking of plastic surgery – then perhaps think again!! Every operation or medical procedure where anesthesia is required comes with a certain amount of risk. Unfortunately for German celebrity, Carolin Berger, she played the unlucky card and was dealt a hand of death after an operation to enhance her breasts eventuated in her demise.

People across Europe had grown to either love or hate her, after she openly went naked and got up to all sorts of mischief in the German version of the reality TV show, Big Brother.

Known by her ‘stage name’ of Sexy Cora, Berger’s official cause of death was ruled as a ‘massive brain haemorrhage’.

She had been in a coma for nine days at a clinic in Hamburg (Germany) following the procedure to enhance her breast size to 34G.

Carolin Berger

Berger had allegedly been without oxygen for 15 minutes during the operation, which led to irrepairable brain damage and as a result, the plastic surgery clinic at the Hamburg University Hospital is now under investigation. Specifically, the 54-year-old anesthesiologist and the 49-year-old surgeon who performed the operation are being investigated by police on the potential charge of ‘negligent homicide’.

So – are you thinking about breast augmentation or other plastic surgery? My advice is that your should sure to consider all of the risks for what some could consider a potential short-term gain…
