Scared To Death Of Paying Rent!

By , May 7, 2012 12:34 am

This kind of reminds me of something out of ‘The Amityville Horror’. The only difference is the perpetrators of this particular poltergeist scam have more to gain than the ill-fated Lutz family back in 1975.

In fact, the New Jersey family of Josue Chinchilla, his fiancé, Michele Callan, and Callan’s two daughters have quite a significant motivation to want to be scared of ghosts – they just don’t want to pay their rent.

haunted03Not only that – they are suing their landlord for the US$2,250 security deposit that they paid on the rental property in Toms River.

According to the family, they had not even been living in the house for one night when they began feeling that they weren’t the only inhabitants.

They reported hearing bizarre sounds, seeing flickering lights, and even alleged to have recorded mysterious voices saying, “Let it burn”. (oh, I just gave myself goosebumps thinking about it).

A couple of months ago (March 10), the family of four decided enough was enough – when blankets started inexplicably sliding off beds and Josue felt an invisible hand grip his arm, and Michele saw a “shapeless dark apparition” hanging around – they checked into a hotel. In fact they feared they would be in mortal danger if they remained any longer in the house.

Then came the lawsuit against the landlord, Richard Lopez… how dare he rent them a haunted house!

Mr Lopez is reported as saying that he believes “the couple is really just frightened of having to pay the rent”. He is countersuing the couple for breaking their lease.

To support their case, Josue and Michele have saught the ‘expert’ (ahem) evidence of
the Shore Paranormal Research Society. The society has made their investigation video of the haunted house public. Although they classify the activity as “paranormal”, they do not go as far as admitting to “an actual haunting”.

Another ‘expert’ (ahem), Marianne Brigando (NJ Paranormal Investigators) does not readily agree with the society saying that the house is “the site of an active or intelligent haunting”. Brigando apparently communicated with the alleged ‘presence’ using a flashlight… when asked questions, the unseen force would turn the flashlight on and off – two flashes for “yes” and one flash for “no”.

Furthermore, Terence Sullivan, the family’s pastor is quite certain a “demonic possession” has paid a visit to the home.

As is my usual way – I will leave it to you dear readers, to make up your own mind…

Is the couple really the victims of a demonic possession or haunting? Or do they just want to end the lease early and get their bond back?

Or perhaps (more likely), they are just absolute crackpots seeking attention? – Flash twice for ‘Yes’!

Cuteness Overload - Jaime 郑家洋

You may well be right to say that I am extremely biased (and overwhelmingly proud), given that Jaime is my son, but please – just look at the pictures and watch the short video below… there is no way you could disagree!

At almost 4-years of age, Jaime Zheng Jiayang (郑家洋) is a product of my Australian heritage (Caucasian, with some indigenous mixture a couple of generations back) and my beautiful wife Sammi (Chinese race – Shanghainese by birth). When it comes to a video camera or DSLR, he is as photogenic and confident as you can possibly get.

Another short note – watch out for his younger brother also (Casey), who is now coming to 10-months old.

11 People Killed In Cold Blood – April Witch Hunt!

By , May 19, 2011 10:26 pm

witch03When you hear the term ‘witch hunt’, most people will automatically think about lessons from school and a place and time in history – Salem, back in 1692 – 1693.

Let me tell you, at least Salem held trials before killing those people accused of sorcery…

Now, roll the clock forward to today, to a place called Assam, a state in far North-East India. Believe it or not, the slaughter of people suspected of being witches is continuing.

Witch hunting has been rampant in Assam for years, with those suspected of sorcery frequently killed in cold blood by fellow villagers.

WHAT THE HELL?? – You may rightly ask!

The good news, is that thanks to a complaint from lawyer and rights activist, Radhakanta Tripathy, the killing of four women in the district has drawn the attention of the National Human Rights Commission.

assamAs a result, police officials have arrested nearly two dozen people for the murder of 11 men and women for allegedly practicing witchcraft and sorcery.

Fellow villagers in Assam killed seven women and four men last month alone. They were suspected of performing in witchcraft, which is believed to have caused death and disease in the area.

A police official told The Associated Press today, that 23 people have been arrested so far in connection with the killings and the police are looking for several others who have fled.

So how to punish these people? – Do they still burn people at the stake??

Iraq’s Weapons of Mass Destruction – One Man Takes On the White House

By , January 10, 2011 12:01 am

Before I begin to describe my take on the real-life movie, ‘Fair Game’ that opens in cinemas in Singapore this week, I want to acknowledge to all of my readers and subscribers that I cannot help but feel somewhat ‘duped’ by the international media in regard to the reasons behind not just the invasion by the US of Iraq post-9/11, but also the involvement of my own countrymen in this very bloody and lengthy war.

After viewing the press preview of the movie on Friday night, I was left feeling so emotive of the likes I’ve not before experienced from any motion picture. I’m not sure that I can even put this into words… normally after watching any movie, it’s quite common for my wife and I to discuss what we thought and the impressions that it left on us.

Driving home on Friday night, I was actually speechless… not figuratively, but quite literally! So much so, that Sammi was worried about what might be causing my despondent attitude. It wasn’t until some hours later after having arrived home and doing my own in-depth research on Iraq’s supposed ‘Weapons of Mass Destruction’ (WMD) program, that I opened up and discussed my feelings on the entire affair and the movie itself.

I do not wish to proclaim myself now as an expert on the subject, so I strongly urge all of my readers and subscribers to go and see this movie when it is released, do your own google searches and research, watch some YouTube videos of the real Valerie Plame, and then if you so desire, come back and post your thoughts as comments here.

Release Date: 13 JANUARY 2011
Rating: PG
Running Time: 108 minutes
Chinese Title: 不 公 平 的 战 争
Directed By: Doug Liman
Starring: Naomi Watts, Sean Penn, Sam Shepard, Bruce McGill, David Andrews

Fortunately (or perhaps unfortunately?), I’m old enough to remember Sean Penn as a teenager in some very hacky comedies… never would I have thought that he would develop into such an extraordinarily talented actor. A scene of his in this movie literally moved me to tears!

Penn plays the part of Joe Wilson, who in real life was a former ambassador to Niger. After being sent by the State Department to Africa to investigate an alleged deal with Iraq – the purchase of enriched uranium. Joe discovers that the deal never in fact took place and his findings are corroborated by other evidence, however the White House still announce publically that the sale occurred and subsequently declares war on Iraq. Joe struggles with this blatant misdirection and ends up writing an article in The New York Times… this brings about a methodical attack by the US Government on Joe’s family and ultimately results in untold number of innocent human casualties.

Joe’s wife (played by Naomi Watts) is real-life undercover CIA officer Valerie Plame – after Joe’s article in the New york Times, Valerie’s identity and covert status is leaked to the press by the White House (illegally). Not only does it put in danger the lives of many people with whom she has been working with in numerous locations globally, it is believed to cause the death of many innocents and of course destroys her career and nearly her marriage.

Her work in the CIA’s counter-proliferation department, also leads her to discover that Iraq has no active nuclear weapons program.

I don’t wish to create any spoilers for the movie, so I’ll leave it here – check it out for yourself and see how you feel about the reasons behind the war in Iraq, your beliefs about WMD programs and certain ‘US officials’. I’d love to hear about it.
