nydc @ Novena Square

By alvinology, January 4, 2012 7:41 pm

After nydc hosted my friends and I for an early Christmas dinner, I returned to nydc on Christmas Eve last year for lunch.

We were in Novena Square to shop for some new clothes for our son Asher as he was going through a growth spurt. Rachel recalled there’s a nydc restaurant tucked on the top floor of Novena Square in a corner unit; perfect for a quiet lunch.

While we went through the menu, Rachel and I reminiscence that nydc was a very popular hangout place back when we were still in secondary schools and JCs in the late 90s.

We were delighted many of our old favourites on the menu were still available. I ordered a Three Amigos Cheese Baked Rice (meatballs cheese baked rice) – an item I always ordered when I visited nydc in my younger days. Between the two of us, we shared one of their mudpie. The mudpie was one of the reason I kept going back to nydc in the past. It is just as sinful and irresistible to me now.

Rachel and I had a satisfying meal at nydc Novena Square. The staff were in a festive mood and were really friendly. Food was nostalgic good and we always appreciate rare alone time like this when we leave Asher in the care of my parents or my parent-in-laws. :)

nydc’s Christmas Menu: Hearty Christmas Roast Platter for Four

By alvinology, December 12, 2011 9:08 pm

Notice the snow on my blog?

Christmas is round the corner and local restaurant chain, nydc has launched their Christmas menu with the Hearty Christmas Roast Platter as the signature dish:

NYDC's Hearty Christmas Roast Platter

This Christmas Platter features chunky strips of grilled Australian marbled sirloin steak; spring chicken marinated overnight and slow roasted with herbs; pork cheese cracker and spicy bratwursts; crispy beer battered onion rings with a bold BBQ sauce and creamy cheese baked Idaho potato gratin served with a bed of fresh salad. The platter also comes with 4 slices of log cake and 4 mugs of the Passionately Fizzy drink.

Best of all?

It is reasonably priced at just $98 – a steal for a 4 pax meal during the festive period! It is ideal for those looking to dine out and celebrate Christmas or for a cosy end-of-year gathering at a budget, yet not compromising too much on food quality. :)

Thanks to the folks from nydc, I was invited to sample the Hearty Christmas Roast Platter together with three of my friends, Tianyang, Yock Sian and Kaili:

We slowly ate, chat and whiled our time away at nydc Bugis Junction. Before we knew it, three hours had past!

Tianyang, who is an old JC friend, reminded me that nydc was a very popular hangout place back when we were still in JC in the late 90s.

It still is, judging by how long we lingered at the restaurant without even knowing it. :)

Other than just the Hearty Christmas Roast Platter, nydc’s festive menu offers a wide selection of different options, catering to various group sizes and food preferences.

If you are looking for an intimate celebration for two, there’s the Hearty Christmas Roast Platter for two (with either the herb roasted chicken or strips of juicy marbled sirloin steak) or Captain’s Catch Seafood Platter for two.

For those who prefer to order a la carte, there’s the Oven Roasted Herb Chicken, Catch Of The Day, or Steak On The Grill to choose from. All a la carte mains are served with buttered asparagus and baby carrots, sweet nutty roasted butternut squash and herb mashed potato.

To spread the festive cheer, nydc will be donating to children beneficiaries of Mainly I Love Kids (M.I.L.K.) Fund at one dollar for every order of the Hearty Christmas roast platter or Captain’s Catch Seafood Platter and fifty cents for every Christmas log cake.

If you are hunting for a place to enjoy your Christmas or New Year gathering with friends or family, consider dining at nydc. :)

omy.sg and Wanbao Festive Gourmet Food Trail – Ngee Ann City Crystal Jade Palace (义安城翡翠皇宫) and Swissotel Merchant Court

By alvinology, November 11, 2011 10:22 am

In a special collaboration with eight well-known restaurants, omy.sg and Lianhe Wanbao, together with veterian food critic Ah Lun (黄卓伦) will be bringing a group of readers on an exclusive festive gourmet food trail for four consecutive Saturdays.

Each week, a group of 80+ readers will visit two restaurants together with Ah Lun to sample their Chinese New Year and Christmas special dishes.

Other than eating, participants were given the rare opportunities to meet with the restaurants’ chef who answered their questions and even shared a few cooking tips on the spot.

Last Saturday was the first event. omy Blog Club bloggers, Stephanie He, Jeanine Quee and Jacqualine Chan were invited to join Ah Lun for the food trail. I was there too as a working staff.

We visited Ngee Ann City Crystal Jade Palace (义安城翡翠皇宫) first for a Chinese New Year meal and Swissotel Merchant Court next for a Christmas meal. The festive bells and whistles came really early for me this year!

To find out more about the event, you can read the bloggers’ reviews; omy.sg’s event report or watch omy.sg’s vodcast coverage.

The last time I worked on the food trail events, my waist grew thicker by quite a few cm, thanks to the endless rich feasting for 5 consecutive Saturdays. There is really such a thing as an overload of good food; not that I am complaining! :)

If you are interested to join this food trail, registration is still open for the remaining sessions on 12, 19 and 26 Nov at $108 per pax or $88 per pax if you register in a group of 2 or more.
